Bird Cleavers
Hen shaped, butcher's meat cleaver. The cleaver is fitted
with an aluminum handle, from the pre-war era, Zolga
region of the Soviet Union.
The handmade, heavy, ancient steel cleaver shows its age since its creation by its maker in
the 1930's. The cleaver comes from the former Soviet Union and was made in the Moscow region. Weighs 2 pounds, 4.2 ounces. 13 inches long, 6.5 inches at the blade.
Black Swan shaped cleaver
from the former Soviet Union,
made in the late 1800's, and is
very rare. The cleaver feature
a half tang and has a rustic
wooden handle that is 10
inches long itself. Weighs 14.2ounces. 10.5 inches long,
3.5 inches at the blade.
Woodpecker shaped meat
cleaver is newer Japanese
production. The large butcher’s
knife has a large curved blade. The handmade walnut handle
has a full tang. Weighs 1 pound, 2.35 ounces. 12 inches long,

the 1915's. The cleaver featuresa full tang and has brass, and copper and different materials
to form the shape of a bird.

Quail with two heads shaped cleaver is one of the more unusual designs of this kind. This 1920's cleaver is from the Ukraine. The bird has bronze eyes inset in the cleaver and a brass pommel over a full tang, with wood inlays. The blade is very thin and the cleaver is light, probably used for herbs more than meats. Weighs 13.2 ounces. 10.5 inches long, 5 inches at the blade.

Warszawa Mazowiewckie, Poland, made in the early
1900's. The cleaver features
a wooden handle, and has makers marks and a serial number on the other side.

Dove shaped cleaver from
France, made in the early 1900's. The cleaver has a
symmetrical head and features a handle made from walnut
wood over a full tang and is
strongly reinforced. Weighs 1
pound, 4 ounces. 11.5 inches long, 5 inches at the blade.
Quail shaped cleaver from the
Italian countryside in Umbria. The cleaver features a handle made from fine oxen horn, scales brass-riveted over a full tang and strongly reinforced with solid, cast-brass bolsters and pommel, as well as copper liners, brass pins. Refined but also very primitive. Weighs 1 pound, 1.2 ounces. 9.5 inches long, 4 inches at the blade.

Czechoslovakia, made in the
1900's is very rare. The cleaver
features a full tang and has a
rustic wooden handle covered
in a copper layer held togetherwith pins. The bird also has a
beveled hole for an eye.

Pheasant shaped cleaver
is one of the more unusual designs of this kind. Made in the Ukraine in the 1920's. The handle of the cleaver has a full tang which is encased on both sides with aged wood, secured by pins. Weighs 1 pound 7.2, ounces. 12.5 inches long, 6 inches at the blade.

a brass eye an a dark wooden handle and a full tang. Weighs 9 ounces. 10 inches long, 4.5
inches at the blade.
Bird shaped cleaver from Eastern Europe. The metal blade is pitted and shows its age, probably from the 1940's. The handle has a full tang and is decorated by two different styles of brass, different design on both sides of the handle.

Bird shaped cleaver from Kingersheim, France. The metal blade is pitted and shows its age, probably from 1919. The blade has a personal engraving on it with initials, a
flower and date. The handle
has a full tang and a rustic
wooden handle. The cleaver also has a copper eye rivet. Restored by Kevin Greenlee
of Gig Harbor, Washington.

A custom hand forged and engraved Phoenix shaped figural meat cleaver. Rare engraving of a devil-like bird in the blade makes this a one of a kind piece. This early handmade cleaver with brass accents on the plastic handle has a full tang and has three pins holding it together, and has a circular loop mat the end for hanging it up. Comes from France. Weighs 13.9
ounces. 11 inches long, 5 inches at the blade.

This beautiful antique bird cleaver which shows signs of prior heavy use in some meat store by the pounded metal on the spine of the bird. This cleaver was purchased from somewhere around Paris, France. Weighs 1 pound, 0.30 ounces. 12 inches long, 4 inches at the blade.

A custom hand forged screen version of the reaver axe used in the movie Serenity as seen in the Death Dance battle scene with River and the reavers. Made from a 3/16 mild steel and with this axe, sharpened the blades. The fire scale from the forge has also left on for a very unique "used" look morphed into a Zoomorphic roadrunner look. Made in Sooke, BC, Canada.
As for the handle, it is made
of a wrapped jute cord.
